Originating as the Eureka Electric Company, McCordsville, Ind. and moved to Chicago in 1898.  In 1902 the Advance Electric Company was absorbed and the year following the company moved to Genoa, Il..    In 1907 the company was sold and reorganized as the Cracraft-Leich Electric Co..    The name was changed to the Leich Electric Co. in 1917.    "GTE"/Automatic Electric, purchased Leich in the mid 1950's.   The Leich name was used until the early 1960's as a subsidiary of GTE.

Late 1930's

desk - non-dial - local battery/magneto - wood housing -  L-1 handset, came in several housing styles.  These sets were sometimes referred to as "RadioPhone" because of the radio like style.             NOTE: these telephones were actually mfg. by Suttle using new L-1 handset and used internal parts.
